When
you consider the innovative music of this new jazz
artist Dan Young, on his latest release, "Image
Of You" you'll agree that the astrophysical
equation for this CD is: "One Hot, Must Have,
Cool CD for your jazz music collection."
Starting
out from humble beginnings Dan's career took quite
a turn. In the summer of '92, Dan was selected by
the ASU Space Grant Committee for a grant to support
undergraduate students to work on space-related
research projects. The project was partly funded
by NASA and involved retrieving, manipulating, and
illustrating archival data on interstellar amorphous
carbon from the Hubbell Space Telescope. Can you
say "Amorphous Carbon?" (i.e. Space Dust)
His
internship ended so well, that for the following
semester Dan was selected to be part of a team of
undergraduate astronomy students used as teachers
aides. Part of this weekly regimen was to take a
group of university students up to the roof of the
physical science building. Provided the night was
clear enough, he would point out constellations,
stars and star formations, as well as any other
type of heavenly phenomena.
Lucky
for us. . .Dan was having a change of heart regarding
his career path. With just three semesters left
from a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from
Arizona State University's Physical Science program
he decided it was time for him to look far beyond
the stars and become one himself.
To
keep his mind off the usual day-to-day grind, Dan
played with a variety of local bands using his sax
as a way of expressing himself. You could say he
was "blowing off steam." Dreaming of a
better life was easy for him considering all the
possibilities of what "space-the final frontier"
had to offer and what lay ahead. Creating jazz was
a gift from Heaven and it was time Dan shared it
with the rest of the world.
His
new CD' Image of You" provides the listener
a vehicle to explore the furthest reaches of dream
by looking far beyond conventional space for a tantalizing
taste of soulful, whimsical, groovin' sounds.
You
might say that "image Of You" is a type
of celestial phenomena that can be seen with an
imaginative mind. Rocket Science? -You won't need
NASA to figure this out. Dan Young's CD "Image
Of You" is truly a heavenly phenomena. Are
you ready for a ride? Then clime aboard and listen
to the stellar sounds of this great new artist.
